On the Wednesday of May 2nd, Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr. Winston Peters displayed their contribution towards the iconic Dubai Expo 2020. The Minister of International Co-operation and Foreign Affairs of Dubai, Sheikh Abdullah, was in New Zealand last week, in order to discuss the bilateral relations with Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Arden.  In the course of their meeting, Winston Peters revealed New Zealand’s interpretation of the pavilion for Dubai Expo 2020 in front of Sheikh Abdullah.

The pavilion that is 2000 square meters in size hosts restaurant, design store, exhibition space, and many more facilities. The $53 million pavilion will speak for the care and connection amidst land and people, as it will spread across the sustainability district of the expo.

Soon after, a tweet from the official twitter account of Dubai Expo 2020 went live. It featured the rendering of the pavilion & an official statement about the same. A day before this tweet, New Zealand’s Commissioner – General to Expo 2020, Mr. Clayton Kimpton announced this event on twitter. During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah discussed assorted scopes to fortify the relations between both the countries. He also met The National Party Leader, Trade Minister, Defence Minister & Education Minister of New Zealand during his visit to the island country.

The planning and organization of Expo Dubai 2020 are based on the theme of connecting minds & creating future. Dubai Expo 2020 is the biggest event in the history of expo at international level. Also, the government of New Zealand has spent a high amount of time, money and resources in developing this pavilion. Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, in an official meeting with the foreign minister of UAE, has revealed that the government has spent more than Dh194.7 million in designing and development of highly attracting country’s pavilion. This pavilion will be representing New Zealand’s culture, tradition, technological power, innovative ideas and business ideas in the Expo Dubai 2020. Apart from this, the pavilion will be featuring an exhibition experience, restaurant, and corporate facilities.

With a theme of ‘Care People and Place,’ the pavilion will be centre of attraction for many individuals from UAE, New Zealand and different parts of the world.  The theme is developed on the basis of a native Māori concept known as kaitiakitanga. This philosophy is related to a strong connection between natural world and humans. New Zealand representatives in Expo Dubai 2020 is committed convey the message of caring for the environment and preserving & securing it for the upcoming generations.

Design and Architecture of pavilion

This Pavilion for Dubai Expo 2020 is designed by an architecture company named as Jasmax Architects.   The company has taken help from Special Group in the form of a creative storyteller. Also, for the engineering services, Jasmax has hire engineering services from a consultant firm named as Mott MacDonald. This mesmerizing pavilion is designed and developed with the inspiration from waka taonga, vessels created by Māori to secure and protect important items. The gorgeously carved containers are significant cultural signs for the maintenance and protection of practices & traditional values.  It has been regarded as a present or gift from New Zealand to the world.

The design of the pavilion is aimed to showcase that the country’s gift to the people around the world is its effective and unique approach to stability and sustainability, its responsibility for the environment and people. This pavilion will be showing an exhibition which will be highlighting innovations and technological advancements of New Zealand. The pavilion will also have a restaurant offering high premium quality New Zealand food & beverage. A series of restaurants will be serving traditional foods items to people from different parts of the world in order to show their food and related culture. Apart from it, there will be a curated store showing the top design and attractive objects made in domestic market of New Zealand.  The main objective of the design of the New Zealand pavilion is to develop partnerships, enhance relationships and uphold traditions through the social groups. The idea, concept, theme, and aim of the pavilion reflect the theme of Dubai Expo 2020‘– Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.
