RTA revealed the route 2020 project which will link the metro’s red line to the Expo 2020 site. The route links Nakheel Harbour and Tower station to the Expo 2020 site near Al Maktoum International Airport. On this section, 10.5km will be elevated, and 4km will be underground, also supported by two underground stations.

The 14.5-km long Route 2020 for Dubai Metro’s Red Line extension will have total eight stations, five elevated stations with a design which was revealed on Monday being the design of the centralstation;The design is similar to the wings of an Airplane. Currently, the Red Line journey time from Rashidiya to Jebel Ali is around 60 minutes. The new route will have an additional journey time of 16 minutes.

To cater more people during the EXPO 2020, the existing station will be reconstructed. Even after the redevelopment work in progress the station will remain available and functional to help commuters travel on the Red Line. The EXPO station which is the main attraction will be an elevated station with a completely different design and look. The Expo station has been planned to cater to the needs of the commuters of the EXPO 2020 and the future visitors after the EXPO 2020 as well.

Till now 53 per cent of the work of the 2020 terminal and 83 per cent of its upper bridge has been completed. The motor vehicle tests on the tracks will begin in May 2019 and the trial run of the metro will start in February 2020 reported the Dubai Media Office.

Dubai metro runs 50 trains in the rush hours and 28 trains in the off-peak times with 6 to 8 minutes gap between train services in the morning and 5 to 6 minutes gap in the evening. Dubai metro has 79 trains where each 85.5m long train can easily accommodate 643 passengers. Information for passengers in Arabic as well as in English is displayed along with the route maps. CCTV monitors are also installed on every carriage. All the trains underwent maintenance tests after every 3 days.

METRO TIMINGS IN DUBAI:

The enigmatic Dubai Metro runs 7 days a week. Operating times are :
5:50 am until midnight From Saturday to Wednesday
5:50 am to 1 am on Thursday 
1 pm until 1 am on Fridays. 
During Ramadan the Metro Timings will remain unchanged.

The interior of Dubai metro is indicative of the rich historical and pearl diving culture of Dubai and is portrayed magnificently through its distinctive shell-shaped roofs. All Dubai metro stations on Red and Green Lines focus on one of the four main elements of nature namely Air (11 stations), Earth (12 stations), Fire (11 stations), or Water (13 stations), and the interior of the metro trains are based on water and air theme.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has announced that 70% of construction of metro route 2020 project has been completed.  The government of Dubai has highly been focused on new metro route line which was proposed after the announcement of Dubai Expo 2020.  In this project, DTA is going to introduce new metro line red line. This metro line is 15km long between two stations Nakheel Harbour and Tower station. Red metro line includes 11.8 km elevated track and 3.2 km long track will be built underground. The metro project is expected to be completed before Expo 2020 event.

As per RTA, the project of the rail track work is now 80%complete. On the other hand, 50-60% of the station works has been completed. The construction work of 11.8 km long Viaduct has been completed. The metro route is designed to make sure that it makes it easy for the visitors to reach event site and back home in the evening.

To ensure this, a multi-level structure involving a ground floor, concourse, mezzanine, and a train platform level.Concourse level consists of a central corridor which enables pedestrian to move between both sides of the metro station. More than 90% of the metal structure has been installed. The station construction project is 50 per cent completed.

Work of winged metal structure of the canopy of metro station is in progress. The installation of canopy is meant to resemble the plane wings and the work is getting completed at so high efficiency that above 30 percent of electro-mechanical work is completed.

Benefits of Metro Route 2020

Dubai expo 2020 is scheduled to be started on October 20, 2020. Millions of tourists are going to visit this mega event. Managing and handling the audience of such huge number of people is not going to be easy for the organisers and other authorities of the event. to make it highly convenient, the government has announced the construction of a new metro route which is being known as metro route 2020. This metro link will help the visitors to attend the event without any difficulty. This metro link will enhance the transportation structure in Dubai. Introduction of new metro line will also contribute in increment in the government revenue. During Dubai Expo 2020 event, this metro line will reduce the problem of heavy traffic on the roads and other metro lines. It is one of the biggest construction projects influenced from this mega event.
